Tell us about life in San Fran…

San Francisco isn’t overly fast-paced, which makes it a great place to live — but startup life here definitely moves at full tilt. The city has a real culture of ambition, with immediate access to globally disruptive founders and investors who genuinely want to help you grow. It’s a brilliant place to build something meaningful.

All of my time outside of work is family time. We’re always off doing something with the kids — Harper and Beau — whether it’s heading to the zoo, the beach, the Academy of Science, or just out exploring. Every Saturday and Sunday morning is spent watching sports with the kids. Maybe someday they’ll wear the blue and yellow of Mullahoran themselves, but for now, they’re loyal supporters from across the ocean.

What do you miss most about Cavan?

Of course, I miss the family. I’m lucky to live next door to my brother here in San Francisco, but there’s a lot more family back home. I miss the food too — I genuinely think it’s better at home, and nothing quite hits the same when you’re away. And then there’s the Irish culture. We’re fortunate to have a thriving Irish community here in San Francisco, but it’s still not the same. Anyone who’s lived abroad knows — home is always home.

When you do get home for a visit what does it mean to you to be able to work in a flexible space?

It makes a huge difference. Having a space where I can plug in, take meetings, and stay productive — without intruding on family time — means I can fully enjoy the visit without falling behind. It helps me bring a little piece of my routine with me when I’m home.

But more than that, there’s real value in the environment that’s created in a flexible space like Cavan Digital Hub — especially when you’re coming from abroad. You get access to like-minded people, many of whom are building, scaling, or figuring things out just like you. That kind of connection is hard to find when you’re working remotely, and it brings a surprising amount of energy and focus to your day. The return on that small investment is huge.

Any other comment

It’s great to see how the region is evolving and embracing remote work. I’m home for over a month this summer, and honestly, it wouldn’t be possible without having somewhere like Cavan Digital Hub to work from.

Having access to a proper space makes a huge difference — it allows me to stay connected to the business while spending real time with family. It’s the kind of support that makes coming home not just easier, but something to really look forward to.
